This Manhattan terrace garden design features a wood deck and wicker furniture with plantings of boxwood hedges, hornbeam and crape myrtle trees. When we first saw this space, it had a bunch of dead boxwoods that, unfortunately, hadn’t done well due to there not being a drip irrigation system installed. The client really loved the fact that the boxwoods were evergreens that looked good year round. So, our redesign included an irrigation system on an automated timer, an absolute must for container plantings on a rooftop terrace that’s exposed to sun and wind. We aimed for a traditional style with contemporary touches to match the client’s interior style. All of the planters also contain low-voltage up-lighting for a beautiful nighttime effect.
