Natural Suburban Gardens

Occasionally at Amber Freda Garden Design, we get asked to design something other than a rooftop garden!  While most of our projects are urban and on the contemporary side, we also enjoy designing for more suburban and traditional spaces such as this week’s featured gardens.

Project 1 – Long Island Landscaping with Retaining Walls & Pool House Design

Natural Surburban

Project 1 is a large private residence in Port Jefferson, New York.  The re-design included paver stone retaining walls to replace some dilapidated wooden lattice structures.  We did a complete overhaul on all the plantings, as well as designing the aesthetics of the pool house and outdoor shower.  We also recommended replacing all the brick around the pool area with bluestone, which really brightens the space and looks much more polished.  Replacing the chain-link fence around the pool area with aluminum fencing adds to the more high-end and inviting feel of the space.

Project 2 – Brooklyn Garden with Retaining Walls, Outdoor Kitchen & Lush Plantings

Natural Surburban

Project 2 is a Brooklyn patio garden that didn’t have a lot of room for plantings previously.  Our re-design included multi-level paver retaining walls that could hold a lush, varied assortment of new plantings.  We really enjoyed personalizing the plantings for our client on this project.  Since she is a doula, who assists women during childbirth, she specifically requested herbs that she could use to help the pregnant women she treats.  We love the idea of her going out to the garden to take clippings to make teas and baths for her patients to help ease their minds and comfort their bodies.
