When I first visited this apartment building’s public courtyard in Battery Park City, it felt a bit outdated and disorganized. Our redesign included a new bluestone patio, cedar fencing, new tree wells with benches, updated plantings, and a custom stacked stone fountain. The fountain It features three waterfalls, a stacked stone facade, and a catch basin filled with Mexican beach stones. We designed the space to feel like multiple outdoor rooms so it can be used by different groups of people all at the same time without anyone feeling like they are encroaching on each other’s privacy. We created mobile partitions, or planters on wheels, which can be moved around to create temporary privacy screens or opened up for larger gatherings.
